The beginning of the year is a great time to do a little wardrobe detox. The idea is that your wardrobe becomes a fun and organised place for you to go shopping from each day and in turn makes deciding what to wear easier. This process is very good as it gives you a chance to really hone in on your personal style and ensure that the clothes you own represnt you the best way possible. Sorting through your wardrobe can often seem like a daunting task which is why people enlist my help, however if you are going to tackle it on your own I have put together a few of my top tips below. 1. Have your bed clear and start pulling clothes out and sorting into piles- Keep pile, charity pile, sell pile. The sell pile will allow you to then buy some new pieces that you might need in order to give your wardrobe the wow factor, and the charity pile will be helping the less fortunate- that's got to make you feel good right? 2. If you haven't worn it in over a year and it dosen't have sentimental value then it's time to let it go. The object is to keep clothing that really makes you feel amazing when you wear it. We haven't got time for clothes that just take up room. 3. Do the above steps with your shoes too. Your outfits will thank you for it. No scuffed heels or dated boots in your awesome wardrobe. 4. If you are trying to create more space in your wardrobe then it is a good idea to place items that are not currently in season into a vacuum bag and place under your bed or somewhere convienient. Sound like a mission? It's really not, vacuum bags can be picked up from stores such as plastic box and they are amazing and easy to use. - you can thank me for the suggestion later! 5. Now that you've decided what you are keeping versus what you are selling or giving to charity, it's time to place the winning items back into your wardrobe. It's up to you how you do this but I often suggest catergorising your clothes. For example...all tops hanging together, all skirts hanging together all dresses hanging together etc. Sorting your clothes into catagories makes it easier for you to be able to co-ordinate outfits daily. Other options are sorting into groups such as casualwear, workwear evening wear etc. Whatever works best for you...as long as the end result is an organised wardrobe that allows you to be your most stylish self every day. When I go through this process with my clients it's amazing how much better they feel with an organised wardrobe. Another step that we do together is putting together various outfit combinations so that you are able to utilise all of your clothes the best way possible. If you need help with this process then please get in touch with me. It will be fun...I promise. Having some good quality classic pieces of clothing in our wardrobe is key to being able to create your most stylish looks. Good staples allow us to then add a few trend pieces seasonly and voila, you can start to mix and match for numerous outfit options! I often get asked what some of the best staples are so here's what I consider 7 wardrobe must-haves: 1. A black blazer This is really a no brainer. A black blazer is a stylish item that can be worn for formal occasions or dressed down with jeans for more of a fun, casual look. When picking a blazer it is important to make sure it accentuates your figure and dosen't make you look boxy; one that is cinched at the waist will avoid this. Shop this one at Asos. 2. A great pair of jeans Need I say more? There's nothing better than finding a pair of jeans that fit really well. How many of us still have our all time favourite pair of jeans from 10 years ago but just can't bear to throw them away because they used to fit like a glove and you're secretly hoping that A. you can fit into them again one day and B. that the faded baggy knee look comes into fashion (guilty!) It's really worth investing in quality jeans. Just make sure they are a good cut and on trend style. Shop these Mavi jeans at Just Jeans. 3. A white shirt This is a must have item again because of its versatility. A classic white button-up shirt can be worn with jeans or black trousers and is great for an effortless, chic look. Shop this one at Glassons. 4. The LBD Make sure you have one of these. It's the best dress to have in your wardrobe as it is one that you can wear over and over and still feel great. Because this is a staple item the style should be as simple as possible which then leaves you the option of dressing it up or down depending on the occasion. And in the words of Karl Lagerfield... "One is never overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress' shop this one at miss selfridge. 5. Black pumps A pair of black heels will be your best friend for so many different occasions- from formal events, to hot dates, to job interviews. They can be worn with just about anything! When finding your perfect pair think slighty pointed toe and a heel that is not too high. Shop these at Mi piachi. 6. A Denim Jacket A denim jacket is a great jacket to own as you can pair it with numerous things to create different looks. The DJ makes a great layering piece over a casual dress or outfit and is good for inbetween weather as it keeps you warm without being overly bulky. Shop this one at Witchery. 7. A casual tee Black, white, grey, v-neck, crew neck, take your pick! Whatever style you prefer this will be another essential item that will ensure you have layering options when you need them. Match one with your jeans, or under your blazer or under your denim jacket and you're good to go. shop this one at https://www.witchery.com.au/ You're welcome. xx
I want to let you in on a little secret....It is not necessary to spend lots of money in order to have style. We have all heard the term chain store chic right? I personally love going into a cheaper store and nabbing myself a great deal, it's quite a satisfying feeling knowing that you have added something to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. It's also satisfying when somebody asks where you got said item from and you can then brag about the bargain factor...I mean who doesn't love saving money where possible these days? People often feel like they need to spend lots on designer labels or expensive items of clothing in order to be considered "stylish" and while it's always good to have some really good quality pieces in your wardrobe there is nothing wrong with adding a few less expensive items also. I always recommend however that you are savvy and sure that you really need the item before you purchase it as you don't want to end up with clothes that you don't end up wearing. Also when visiting cheaper stores try and stay away from polyester and look for cotton or cotton blends instead. At the moment my favourite is Glassons... http://bit.ly/2eWRwG3, this brand caters to many ages and has such a good selection of affordable fashion ranging from party wear to weekend wear to chic office wear, it really is a one stop shop! In the past there used to be a stigma around shopping at stores such as these but now the buying teams are doing such a great job you can always find something on trend for a really good price. For example the blouse pictured above you can pick up for only $39.95....what a steal!! Another brand that is nailing the fun fashion scene is the recent arrival H&M. Every week they have a new collection of clothes come into stock and it is such a good place to grab some awesome deals, they cater for men, woman and children so everyone can reap the benefits. If you are yet to go and check it out I would really recommend doing so- you might want to block out a bit of time though as there is a lot to look at and with it still being a new brand in NZ it is also really busy. Guys you could pick up a short sleeve shirt like the one pictured below for only $14.99..pretty good value! http://hm.info/16bkd Did you know that H&M also have an amazing initiative which is designed to decrease textile waste. Simply take any unwanted clothes (from any brand) into the store at Sylvia Park where they will then either be recycled or reused and receive 15% off the next item you purchase...it's a Win win!! Check out more information here http://hm.info/15tft I love helping my clients create functional wardrobes that have a mix of good quality pieces mixed with a few cheaper chic pieces, and with so many new shops (let's not forget to mention Zara) we now have even more options for affordable fun fast fashion shopping! Happy bargain hunting. xx Fahion lovers you have come to the right place...Fashion is my passion! I love how clothes can take you from drab to fab in an instant. We all know the feeling of wearing an outfit that makes us feel amazing, it's a game changer when it comes to how we interact with people and how we project ourselves. Think of that brand new dress or stylish new shirt that made you stand a little taller and smile a little harder and had people flooding you with compliments. Who doesn't love compliments right?
